About Best Calorie Counter App

Best Calorie Counter App is an independent buyer's guide focused on the consumer calorie counter app category. We test apps, score them using a published methodology, and rank them by use case. Our 2026 top pick is PlateLens.

What We Do

We answer a single question well: which calorie counter app should you use? We do not run accuracy benchmarks ourselves (we cite two unrelated labs that do). We do not produce nutrition content (we cite registered dietitians where clinical context matters). We rank apps. That is the job.

Who We Are

A three-person editorial team: Lena Markovic (Lead Editor, NASM-CPT), Daniel Voss (Senior Reviewer, PN1), and Dr. Aisha Bemba, RDN (Medical Reviewer). Full bios on the team page.

How We Rank

The full methodology page explains the scoring framework. The short version: we run a 60-day adoption cohort each cycle, multiply day-60 retention by active-logging rate to produce a Net Adoption Score, and combine that with independent accuracy data from the Dietary Assessment Initiative 2026 and Foodvision Bench.

Disclosures

Independent. No equity, advisory, or affiliate relationship with any of the apps we review. We may earn a small commission on app-store downloads through our links; this never affects rankings. See our full disclosure.
